The Smartphone is the new in gadget of the era.  This is the new cell phone that is supposed to help a person organize and run their life more efficiently.  These new smart phones are like miniature computers that can also send and receive phone calls.  They can send and receive emails, go online to look up information as well as store information. (Bae, 2011)

The advantages to the Smartphone are that it is portable, convenient, and it is the most important tool in social networking.  These features are what the companies are using to attract the people of the new technological society that we have turned into.  The new society that we have created is so dependant on technology that it is difficult for people to be separated from the technology.  This is why the Smartphone has become such a hot topic and a big seller.  There are those that could not survive without their Smartphone.  (Bae, 2011)

There are major issues with these phones and the concept that people can’t function without this technology.  The first issue is that people rely so much on technology that their whole lives are available and accessible to anyone who wants to search via this new technology.   One problem occurred with Apple, they were tracking their users’ information and customer found out.  This seems like an invasion of privacy but people are putting their information out there and it is just a matter of time for companies to take advantage of this information.  (Bae, 2011)

The next issue is that, just like a computer, the Smartphone is subject to viruses.  This doesn’t seem that bad; however, if you inadvertently get a virus on the phone and it destroys the phone, it will not be covered under warranty and you have now lost the phone and all information in the phone.  This can cause major stress for people as they rely on the information that is stored in these high tech. phones.

The key issues is that as people are relying on technology more and more, people need to learn how to protect themselves and their information.  People need to be aware of all the risks and have back ups prepared if anything goes wrong.  People view this technology as a way saving time and securing information in a fast and efficient method.  The problem is that people don’t realize that this technology can actually open them up to less security and an easier way for people to lose this information; after all the phones are small and compact and easily lost or stolen.

As society grows and develops, people need to understand this growth and development.  This means that people need to adjust how they do things and how they protect themselves from the possible misuse of these new developments.  There will always be new developments which mean people will always need to find new ways of protecting themselves and their personal information.  Everyone needs to be aware that the new technology will also have new flaws that will take time to learn how to fix those flaws.  We need to remember that nothing is an absolute perfect new development, for each new development there is a new problem.

The goal of this paper was to see if I should support the employees and help talk the owner into getting a Smartphone, or if I should support the owner and get the employees to back off of pressuring her to get the phone.  I can state that knowing how concerned she is about information getting stolen that I will be supporting the owner and telling the employees to stay out of the situation.  She is content with the phone she has and they need to mind their own business.

The three icons that have helped shape my view on society are Bruce Lee, The peace sign, and the heavey metal band Kiss.  The love of the martial arts was developed from watching Bruce Lee every Saturday night with my father. Bruce Lee was a key icon to many people, he was one of the first inspirational martial artist and motivated many Americans to look into the martial arts.   The peace sign became important to me as I dealt with learning to control my temper. The peace sign means many things to many people but as an icon, it supports the essence of peace in the world.  The band Kiss was the source of my release, a way for me to shake off any stress.  Kiss was a one of a kind act, the theatrics, the music, and the showmanship set the standards for many heavey metal bands to follow.

These three icons together may seem odd together, but when you piece them together the way I used them you can understand why they mean so much to me.  I was a tomboy obsessed with the martial arts, I had a horrible temper that could not be controlled.  My father recommended the martial arts to help gain focus and control of my temper.  My instructor had me find a symbol that would represent what I want to feel like.  I chose the peace symbol.  With the help of my instructor and the use of the peace symbol as a goal, I was able to gain control of my temper.  I still had an issue with stress, this is where the band Kiss came in.  The music was my release of stress, I could play the music and let my stress out with every beat of the music.

The combination of the martial arts and the belief that peace must win out is what helped me gain control over my temper and to eventually eliminate my temper.  The music from Kiss was my release from stress, from my parents, and from society.  The combination of these three items helped me gain control and focus in my life.  This is why these three items a key icons that have changed and molded my life into what it is today.
